The PHR NextGen Alternator for Toyota Supra - Suitable for racing or car audio applications on both the Turbocharged and Naturally aspirated versions of the Toyota 2JZ engine, these alternators will run cooler, maintain better voltage, and last longer than the original 3 phase round-wire Toyota alternator design. Installation is a direct bolt in, the stock belt can be used, and the unit accepts the factory Toyota Supra alternator harness.

The new features of the NextGen Alternator feature twin rectifier plates, 12 huge heavy duty diodes, and hairpin stator construction for un-matched low RPM output and durability.

Hairpin Stators

The 6 Phase Advantage

PHR NextGen Series alternators employ cutting edge alternator technology not found in other aftermarket alternators. 6 phase hairpin stators make PHR NextGen Series alternators fundamentally more efficient than other aftermarket alternators. This new technology and increased efficiency equates to incredible output at extremely low engine RPM, less energy wasted in the form of heat, and more horsepower to the wheels. Also, because less heat is being generated, the internal components of PHR NextGen Series alternators last longer. This is especially beneficial on turbocharged and/or endurance racing vehicles with high engine compartment tempuratures. All PHR NextGen Series alternators feature soldered stator and rectifier connections, with epoxy re-enforced stator connections, reducing the chance of vibration failures.

High Pole Count

PHR NextGen units are built exclusively with precision balanced low-mass rotors that allow them to operate safely at shaft speeds of 20,000+ rpm. This high RPM capability, combined with excellent ouptut at idle, gives the user a much broader operating RPM range, and more flexibility in the size of the crankshaft pulley used. A properly selected PHR NextGen alternator can even fix low voltage problems caused by using small diameter, or "underdriven" pulley ratios. The higher pole count in the rotor also results in less electromagnetic interference to cause problems with radios and other electronics.

Twin Rectifiers

As a final precaution, PHR NextGen alternators are constructed with twin high efficiency cooling fans, and twin internal rectifier plates. While other high performance alternators have only one rectifier with 6 diodes, PHR NextGen units boast 12 press fit diodes with 300% more surface area to dissipate heat. These considerations to cooling airflow and heat dissipation make PHR NextGen high performance alternators the most durable aftermarket alternators you can buy. If you are experiencing pre-mature alternator failure, intermittent electrical accessory problems, or low voltage at any engine RPM, a PHR NextGen 6 phase alternator is the answer!

170Amp - Using the 2.9 inch pulley and ATI crank damper, the 170 amp version will make 85 amps at only 800 engine RPM. Bumping idle speed to 1000 RPM will increase output to 120 amps. It will produce 170amps at only 2700 RPM. This setup is recommended for high RPM motors, and is capable of short burst (not maintained) over 9000 RPM.

It will also produce 69 amps at 800 engine RPM using stock crank damper. Bumping idle speed to 1100 RPM will increase output to 120 amps. It will produce 170amps at 3100 RPM. It is not recommended to rev stock crank damper above 7000 RPM.

240Amp - Using the 2.9 inch pulley and ATI crank damper, the 240 amp version will make 70 amps at 800 engine RPM. Bumping idle speed to 1000 RPM will increase output to 125 amps. It will produce 240 amps at 2800 RPM. This setup is recommended for high electrical demand cars. and is capable of short burst (not maintained) up to 9000 RPM.

It will also produce 61 amps at 800 engine RPM using stock crank damper. Bumping idle speed to 1150 RPM will increase output to 120 amps. It will produce 240amps at 3200 RPM. It is not recommended to rev stock crank damper above 7000 RPM.

Information about pulley sizes
Smaller alternator pulleys are available upon request (2.4 inch). Keep in mind, smaller pulley sizes, although they will increase low RPM output (lower idle speeds), it is recommended to reduced engine rev limit to keep alternator rotor speed below 20,000. Although our alternators are capable of speeds above 20,000, continual or repeated speeds above can damage the alternator or shorten its life.

To determine rotor speed use this equation: (Crank Pulley Size)/(AlternatorPulley Size)*(Engine Speed)=(Rotor Speed)

Self-Excitation Option:
An alternator is basically an AC generator powered by the engine. It consists of electromagnets mounted on a rotor spinning inside windings of wire, called a stator. A relatively small field current is supplied to the rotor, powering the electromagnets to create a magnetic field. This field current is genrally supplied through the 3-Pin connector on the alternator.

Self-Excitiation means that the alternator is capable of generating it's own field current from the mechanical operation of the alternator turning. This eliminates the need of the external field wire. Therefore the 3 pin connector on the alternator is eliminated and only the single battery wire will be needed.

It should be noted that if self-excitation is being used, it will also eliminate the battery sense and dash light wires as well so some sort of voltage monitoring will be needed.

NextGen units are built in the USA with OEM Toyota / Lexus internal components and include a 2 year warranty.
